چکیده

Let R be a subring of the rationals. We want to investigate self splitting R-modules G that is ExtR(G,G) = 0 holds. For simplicity we will call such modules splitters, see [16]. Also other names like stones are used, see a dictionary in Ringel’s paper [14]. Our investigation continues [10]. In [10] we answered an open problem by constructing a large class of splitters. Classical splitters are free modules and torsion-free, algebraically compact ones. In [10] we concentrated on splitters which are larger then the continuum and such that countable submodules are not necessarily free. The ‘opposite’ case of א1-free splitters of cardinality less or equal to א1 was singled out because of basically different techniques. This is the target of the present paper. If the splitter is countable, then it must be free over some subring of the rationals by Hausen [12]. Contrary to the results in [10] and in accordance to [12] we can show that all א1-free splitters of cardinality א1 are free indeed.

0 On our paper ‘ Almost Free Splitter ’ , a correction

Let R be a subring of Q and recall from [3] that an R-module G is a splitter if ExtR(G,G) = 0. We correct the statement of Main Theorem 1.5 in [3]. Assuming CH any א1-free splitter of cardinality א1 is free over its nucleus as shown in [3]. Generally these modules are very close to being free as explained below. This change follows from [3] and is due to an incomplete proof (noticed thanks to P...

Cotorsion Theories and Splitters

Let R be a subring of the rationals. We want to investigate self splitting R-modules G that is ExtR(G,G) = 0 holds and follow Schultz [22] to call such modules splitters. Free modules and torsion-free cotorsion modules are classical examples for splitters. Are there others? Answering an open problem by Schultz [22] we will show that there are more splitters, in fact we are able to prescribe the...

Development of a displacement- and frequency-noise-free interferometer in a 3D configuration for gravitational wave detection.

The displacement- and frequency-noise-free interferometer (DFI) is a multiple laser interferometer array for gravitational-wave detection free from both the displacement noise of optics and laser frequency noise. So far, partial experimental demonstrations of the DFI have been done in 2D table top experiments. In this Letter, we report the complete demonstration of a 3D DFI. The DFI consists of...

Placement of Light Splitters in Optical Networks

For a multicast routing algorithm to be applicable in optical networks, it must route data only to group members, optimize and maintain loop-free routes, and concentrate them on a subset of links. In order to do this, light trees must be generated to route data in the optical layer to all the group members. To apply this, optical nodes have to branch one incoming light wave to more than one out...
